What happens if an owner doesn't comply?

Non- Compliances in regards to Essential Safety Measures can result in infringement notices being issued with fines exceeding $1000. Non compliances may also result in prosecution where individuals may face fines of $10,000 and companies $50,000 for every breach of the regulations.

In addition to fines and/or prosecution, non compliance can place occupants and the building itself at risk. Non compliance may result in insurance companies not providing payment as a result of the owner not satisfactorily maintaining and protecting their building/s.
