What type of buildings need to comply?

  

Buildings that must comply with Essential Safety Measure requirements include the following types of buildings as defined in the Building Code of Australia:

  

Class 1b: Some boarding houses, guest houses, hostels or the like.

Class 2: Buildings containing sole-occupancy units (e.g. blocks of flats and apartment type buildings)

Class 3: Backpacker accommodation, residential parts of hotels & motels, residential parts of                 schools, accommodation for the aged, disabled or children, residential part of a detention                 centre.

Class 4: A dwelling in a building that is Class 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 if it is the only dwelling in the building.

Class 5: Office type buildings used for professional or commercial purposes.

Class 6: Shops or other buildings used for the sale of goods including retail, cafes, restaurants, milk                 bars, dining rooms, and bars.

Class 7a: Car parks;

Class 7b: Buildings used for storage or display of goods or produce.

Class 8:  Buildings used for production purposes/assembly of goods or a laboratory

Class 9a: Health care buildings;

Class 9b: An assembly building (e.g. sporting stadiums, halls, churches, cinemas etc.)

Class 9c: An aged care building
